Pacific Coast Sportfishing, formerly known as South Coast Sportfishing, made its debut in 1981 with its inaugural issue, Volume 1/Number 1. This edition proclaimed itself as “The Only Newspaper-Magazine Serving Exclusively the Southern California and Baja Sportfishermen,” spanning 38 pages printed on black-and-white newsprint. Over the decades, the publication has significantly evolved in both page count and subscriber base, alongside notable improvements in paper quality and color presentation. Yet, it remains dedicated to its foundational mission: a comprehensive focus on West Coast saltwater fishing, encompassing the storied waters stretching from Central America to Alaska and westward to Hawaii.

The magazine seeks to entertain and educate its readership through a variety of features centered around angling techniques, captivating travel locations, and authentic narratives of impressive catches, alongside exclusive insider information. Each year, Pacific Coast Sportfishing publishes eleven new issues, each filled with numerous original articles and feature stories complemented by striking photography. In addition to technique-focused content, the magazine also profiles intriguing personalities within the sportfishing community. The editorial team comprises skilled writers and editors with backgrounds as private boat captains, six-pack operators, seasoned anglers, and experienced saltwater journalists.
